Voice Workshop MA students Kate Cubley and Juliet Russell were awarded first and second prize for their academic posters at the “Towards Best Practice: Teaching Singing in Higher Education" conference at the University of West London in September 2018. Kate’s explored Stealthy Balance - an acronym and method she developed to help students and teachers work with more awareness of posture and alignment and Juliet’s explored the relationship between vocal technique and expressive vocal performance.
The London College of Music hosted the one-day conference with top researchers and voice practitioners Dr Gillyanne Kayes, Janice Chapman, Prof. Johan Sundberg, Tori Burnay, Dr Susan Yarnall, Dr Denise Borland and Ali Bell.
The day was relevant to teachers of all genres especially those working in higher education or preparing students to enter HE including Musical Directors.
Topics covered include being a singing teacher, examining the current model, myths and misconceptions, acoustics, rehabilitation, the psychology of one-to-one teaching, new developments in France, and a round table discussion.
